About the Workshop

Kenya’s healthcare landscape is rapidly evolving with the growing adoption of digital health solutions, telemedicine, and electronic health records (EHRs), in alignment with the Government’s Digital Health Strategy (2020–2030). These advancements are improving access to care and efficiency across the public and private sectors.

However, this transformation introduces new legal, ethical, and professional challenges for healthcare practitioners. The enactment of the Data Protection Act, 2019 and establishment of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) have created new compliance obligations regarding the handling of sensitive patient data. Simultaneously, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) continues to record rising cases of medical negligence and malpractice complaints, emphasizing the need for continuous professional education on ethical and legal responsibilities.

This one-day training seeks to equip medical practitioners in Kenya with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to uphold data privacy standards, minimize medico-legal risks, and ethically integrate emerging technologies into patient care. By strengthening practitioners’ understanding of data protection, medical negligence, and emerging technologies, the program will foster accountability, compliance, and public trust in Kenya’s healthcare system.
